Thirteen
wins and six losses made this
teams record a good one. Led by the excellent all-around playing of John
Tracy and determined guarding of Wayne Gibson, they played some
tremendous games. Starting with a win over Shelton they then lost a real
thriller to Lincoln, 46-44. Mount Tahoma beat them with two foul shots
after the game was over it was 59-58. They played Kent
Meridian and discovered the mysteries of rubber basketballs as are used
in the Puget Sound League. They scored 86 points against North and every
man scored. The real thriller was a heart-stopping 59-57 win
in overtime in P. A.
John Tracy was our
best player and one of three excellent guards who have played at East.
Gibson was just a fire ball; Gene Kennedy was a steady
performer. Bob Richardson was a hard
working, courageous player. Carl Mayer was just "Big Carl," a boy who in
his senior year fought his school work and himself and made the team
when most people felt he didn't have a chance.
If you'll notice the scores on this
team, they lost several very close games. With luck and the other things
that it takes to win the close ones they could have ended the season
with 17-3 record, This team was fun to coach!
